The Pointless Nostalgic Discussion Boards will be changing over to a new discussion board platform very soon! The new and spiffy boards will include some new features that will make your board experience more fun and exciting...promise!

Seeing that the new boards will be up and ready very soon, there is one major detail that you need to know:

PRIVATE MESSAGES, PROFILE INFORMATION: Your profile information will not be carried over to the new boards. Please be sure to save all important Private Messages, Signatures and Profile information ASAP so that you don't lose a thing

This is just a heads-up for you all. Please start saving all your information as soon as you can! I'll keep you all updated on the new board changes!

Thanks for the heads up Helen!

If you want to save your PMs, you have the option to archive them and have them sent to the e-mail address you used to register on the board.

It's done. Thanks for the warning. Hope everyone reads it. And I'm damn curious about the new board.

Went for the other option as well just to be certain and that did arrive 2sec later I'd prefer the html as the file is pretty much unreadable if you ask me.

I tried it both ways and both PN archive emails I received contained gibberish. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

What I'm planning to do is just copy all the messages I want to save into word processing documents. Seems the easiest course, since seems a number of people are having problems. Somewhat time-consuming, but may end up saving time and trouble in the end.

You won't have to re-register for the new boards, but you'll have to re-set your password. I'll give you all the information very soon. All current conversations on this message board will be transferred to the new boards, so you won't have to worry about losing your current public threads.

OH YEA, one more thing, your avatar and signatures will also be lost after the transfer, so please save those as well.

I'll try it again, seems like something went wrong if you ask me...

How will the discussion board format be different than the current format? I've only ever used this format, so I'm not sure what it will look like. (And I'd like to be a bit prepared.)

I didn't understand much, but well, I have saved my information... just in case!

Mine did that in the beginning as well, but it's worked fine now. Just try a couple of times before you start copying every message

Val, see post from Helen, I think if all the convo's will be transferred, it'll mean that all the posts will still be there, so we won't lose post accounts.

Okay, cool. I like the current format. And new features are always nice.

Erm, I tried archiving my PMs (HTML and Excel format, to be safe) but both email content contain a load of rubbish.. The top part saying "This is a MIME encoded message." The rest is a load of letters in lower and upper case.
I've never had any trouble archiving PMs before, and I've done so with ease numerous times, but now its being completely odd.

Any solutions? Bar C+Ping to another program..

Same thing for me but I've never been able to archive my PM's. Everytime I've tried to archive them I always get the upper/lower case letters and numerics. Never mind...will copy and paste the really important ones.

Nothing concrete. People just kept trying both formats. *shrug*

Worked for me, first time, in HTML. Go figure.

(Still wound up copying everything to MS Word files, though...just a more organized way for me.)

I tried several times on Tuesday. Not at all on Wednesday. Then again this morning. Still gribberish.
I'll follow MMK's example and copy what I want to save. In my case it really doesn't matter. I think I have a whopping total of nine messages. But, I just wanted to alert the powers that be that the archive system still isn't working for everyone.

You should be able to right click on your avatar and safe it that way. That's what I did with my butterfly. Hope it works!

same here. I tried a couple of times, at least once a day and both formats, but nothing. I don't have any really important pm's I can't loose so I'm not stressed out. It's just a bit annoying though.

I have saved my signature text & my avatar URL for future reference.

Will the board actually be offline while the upgrades are taking place, or will the old board still be useable?

I am asking just out of interest... I know there are some that can be/have been done while they are still online.

I read another pinned thread Funtin and Helen says that the boards will be down for a while but by Thurs evening everything should be ok.
