Noticed this campaign yesterday when my wee brother was watching newsround in my room. Was very interested and went to order my straight away.
I head an anti-bullying commitee at school - made up of senior staff, parents and 2 senior pupils. We are in the process of improving the policy our school has. I was thinking that if these blue wristbands could be ordered/bought in bulk, this could be part of our schools campaign but you can only order one at a time.
Hrm...any thoughts and/or ideas?
smile.gif Thanks,

Kim xx

P.s - Who has one of these?
Watermelon_Man

I finally managed to find the place where you order them (it took quite a while) only to find that you can only order them around 8am. Hopefully my memory will surprise me and I shall remember. It's a good idea though.

I thought it may have been something like that. I read that they got rid of their first batch (100,000 i think) on the first day which is brilliant if it's true!!

A bit behind, but I ordered mine today. Its a shame you can only order one per person/address... I have ordered for several friends that don't have internet access & had to put in a different address everytime. What about schools that want to order in bulk? blink.gif

I got my LiveStrong wristbands through the mail today too... there is a 3-4 week waiting list for them & the price they are going for on Ebay due to demand is abominable!!! dry.gif

There's something ironic about the title of this thread.

They have now sold out I believe. sad.gif

Indeed, they have. From Radio one online:

QUOTE
The demand for Beat Bullying wristbands has been truly amazing. In just six weeks, we received ONE MILLION requests!

We're sorry but there are no more available.
If you placed your order before 31st December you will receive your wristband.

Wearing a band is not the only way you can show support for the Beat Bullying campaign. Every seven seconds someone is bullied in Britain. So just being aware of the extent of the problem is more important.

However, if you're a fan of wristbands or wish to raise awareness of debt related problems in the developing world and the campaign to end extreme poverty then get your Make Poverty History bands right here (shameless plug but I don't care!) Even Dermot O'Leary is wearing it ladies!!! tongue.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif and there was him thinking he was beating the bullying wearing the band.. But no, Even with the 'beat bullying' wristband on you can still be arrested by the police.. rolleyes.gif

I do wonder about this whole scheme... how is raising money by buying thick rubberbands going to stop nasty kids smacking about intimidated kids? We can all say "well it raises awareness", but I am sure for centuries bullies have existed and will continue to so long after this campaign, simply because some youths take pleasure in sadism and violence, whether out of malice or to compensate for some internal inadequacy. Plus if a kid does wear one and their bully sees it, chances are they will be focused on even more for "trying to squeal". Just seems like a lot of money that can't possibly be used for the purpose it is being raised unless they are going to bribe these bullies. Unless it was an elaborate ruse to raise money for something else, but that would never happen ever.

Also. have to wonder... how many of these bands were snapped up by celebs to show they are such wonderful beacons of society/have the most fashionable charity accessory since the pink ribbon/green button/red nose?
heythere
I actually wonder about the value of such bands too. Are they merely a fashion accessory now or do they still have a role to play in raising awareness? For example, how many people wearing their yelllow bands know the story behind the Livestrong bands and the Lance Armstron charity in general? I'm not sure... I hope they do raise awareness and promote worthy causes though. I just wonder whether with the Livestrong bands, followed by the anti bulling bands, followed by the white Make Poverty History bands we have now reached saturation point meaning that they have now lost their effectiveness? huh.gif

Oh and the anti bullying bands were given away free so they weren't necessarily about raising money. I believe raising awareness was their primary aim.
HCG
I wear a livestrong band because my mate asked me to, one of her relatives has cancer.
I have no idea about the actual charity which is pretty bad huh.gif
*goes off to click the link in funtin's sig*

Please don't think I was getting at you or anyone else there. It was just a question I was throwing out there. I can appreciate your reasons for wearing the band and, for what it's worth, I think you have very reason for wearing one is very appropriate.
HCG
No I was jsut proving your point that a lot of people don't actually know much about the charities lol!
BostonGirl86
although im sure people know about the charity part of the Live Strong bracelets..they have become more of a fashion accessory in the USA in my opinion
Jill
yay i received mine today!! my friend got her bout a week ago but shes the only non celeb type person i've seen with them, yay we're finalling getting them

So, If anyone hasn't received theirs yet or wants one and can't get one as they've stopped doing them; Then PM me and I'll send it off to you.
Otherwise I'll give it to my mum..
