by the way what does everyone think of the new uniforms worn by the Wimbledon umpires, ball boys/girls etc They were designed by Ralph Lauren apparently!
I can't make my mind up!

I don't like them... Wimbledon isn't really Wimbledon without the purple & green.

I hear the price of strawberries have gone up dramatically this year too...

Tracey D:Have high hopes for Murray though, he was fantastic today

I agree - he is playing very, very well!
He seems to excel as long as he holds his nerve. His immaturity starts to show when he gets broken mentally.
If he continues to hold his nerve I think he will go far this year. However, I don't think he'll win.
Perhaps in a year or two, but for now I just don't think he's got all skill angles covered just yet.
Saying that I could be completely wrong and his game will get stronger as Wimbledon goes on.
Tracey D
I think they make a nice change.
Although the performance of the ball boys and girls today was a bit rough, during the centre court game. I saw two of them make mistakes!

I think the new uniforms look quite old fashioned in style (well the umpire one anyway)
Henman is on earlier today on centre court by the way because whoever was playing Kim Clisters withdrew, so he'll be on in around 30 minutes time.

the uniforms don't have any impression on me because its not them that i'm watching the tennis for! however i did notice that they're the same colour as the Austrian Open uniforms so maybe they're just trying to get a worldwide tennis uniform?
Funtin':Val's boy Mario Ancic...
lol i love that

. thanks anita

oh and he won today! i think Sanguinetti gave up in the last set because of a problem though so he didn't have to complete the set but still went through

Val - I watched Mario Ancic's game against Sanguinnetti... he played very well & is looking very strong this year... high hopes for him.

Anyone taking bets whether Tim will be back next year yet?

I watched Andy Murray's match after dinner before it got stopped for bad light...
He was playing really well until he went over on his ankle again... the court was getting quite greasy, because Benneteau went over a couple of times too.

Murray was leading Benneteau by two sets to one, 7-6, 6-4, 4-6, as the clock ticked towards 9pm and the match was called off court. The match will resume tomorrow.

The match between Leyton Hewitt & Hyung-Taik Lee was also suspended at 2 sets each, 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (5-7), & will also finish tomorrow.

I think that made him loose his concentration more than anything. He managed to redeem himself by breaking back and played some superb shots, despite his injury.
Benneteau was putting up quite a fight all the way through, so I think Andy did well to do what he did.
I'm interested to see how he plays tomorrow. Hopefully he'll be more focused after a rest!
Starbuck
Jun 30 2006, 02:20 AM
Yeah, I think the rest will do him good, you could see he was getting tired in the last set.
Benneteau was great in the 3rd set... shouting his way through & clawing his way back... should be quite a finish between those two.

The match between Max Mirnyi & James Blake is currently in progress on Centre Court... this will be followed by the remainder of the match between Andy Murray & Julien Benneteau from yesterday evening.

Following that will be Ai Sugiyama v Martina Hingis, & then Stanislas Wawrinka v Mario Ancic.

Lleyton Hewitt finished his game from last night & beat Hyung-Taik Lee of Korea, 6-7(4) 6-2 7-6(6) 6-7(5) 6-4... next match on Court 1 is Roger Federer v Nicholas Mahut of France.
Shock exit for 4th seed David Nalbandian... he was beaten by 28th seed Fernando Verdasco of Spain, 7-6(9) 7-6(9) 6-2.

Millan will be happy... Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden beat Daniele Bracciali of Italy, 7-5 6-2 6-1.

Phew! Very glad to see Murray made it. He definitely needed that rest. I don't think he would have won as easily if he'd had to carry on yesterday.
Great game between Mirnyi and Blake. I watched half of it (mainly Blake loosing then crawling back) and some great, great tennis was played.
Mirnyi is a monster! All 6'5" of him.
i think Murray needs to do some praying before he comes up against Roddick, the poor guy! i hope he beats him!

oh and i hope Henman won't be back next year but at least the UK still have Murray!
i didn't realise you could get really quick updates on the wimbledon website. my tv's been taken over so i'm just looking at all the updates. its really good and quick!

I'm pessimistic about Andy winning. But, he's just played a few corking shots, early on.
We can but hope!
yeah its 3-3 all the moment so its evenly matched!
ancic is 2-1 up in sets and 5-3 up in the current set so here's hoping he'll win!
Val:ancic is 2-1 up in sets and 5-3 up in the current set so here's hoping he'll win!
yay he's into the 4th round

but i just found out some ...
interesting news ... if ancic wins in the fourth round and if federer does too, then they'll be playing each other in the quarters
bye bye ancic

That is, by far, THE best tennis match I have ever seen! He's superb!
Andy did a great job of attacking Roddick on his second serves, beating him down at every opportunity, holding his own serve.. And he's only 19?! Its brilliant. Really, really brilliant! He deserved to win so much.

I agree, Phoe...

And, after the disappointment of the football, it was good to see such a positive game from Murray...
"Murray beats Roddick in Battle Of The Andys"
... but he has a busy day on Monday... second out on Centre Court against Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, then in the mixed doubles on Court 2 after Mario Ancic's game.

oh murray

straight sets too poor guy!
(stupid) federer's up against ancic in the next round ... the quarter finals! ooooooooh so exciting! except that it means wimbledon's nearly over for another year again! ancic better put up a good fight or i'll never forgive him! if he doesn't get through then i hope nadal beats federer's ass

Shame Murray didn't get any furthur but he did well this year, and like he said himself in the interview; he can learn from it and see how he needs to improve for next year!
he's very very down to earth for someone so young that was just thrown into the spotlight. thats why i think he'll do so well. i heard some girl left her number on his bag and at the press conference he asked the girl to send him a picture incase she was butt ugly
