Thought rather than having several threads about one film it might be a good idea to have one thread about all films! (Did that make sense?!)

So i saw The Ladykillers the other week, anyone seen it?
I thought it was great, really funny, love the Coen brothers stuff. I think it may be my favoutrite Tom Hanks role too (apart from Splash obviously!) coz he was very good, not his usual thing.
Gee
I haven't actually. Well, there isn't actually a cinema where I live, other than one that visits about twice every month...that could be part of the problem. So yeah, this is a pointless post! Although I'd quite like to see the original - anyone else seen that? I'm also quite excited about Spiderman 2, after all the great reviews I've read. Again, anyone able to fill me in?

I see a lot of films, would hate to not have a cinema near by, you poor thing!!

Saw Spiderman 2 last night, is good, Toby Maguire's very cute (especially in a skin tight spidey suit!!) I thought the effects were better in this one and the story was good, rounded a few things up but there's obviously gonna be a third too.

Intruiguing... rolleyes.gif Thanks for that. It's surprisingly easy to live without a cinema, but it's still quite nice when I do go. I suppose it makes it more of a treat. I'll be moving to Glasgow soon though, so things could change!

I can't ring myself to go and see The Ladykillers. I studied the original for my A Level film studies exam and loved it! Alec Guiness was amazing.
I'm a film studies student so i see quite a lot of films in my lectures too smile.gif

.... I don't think Ladykillers has been shown here yet. The remake, I mean. Would love to watch it!

I'm going to watch King Arthur and Ella Enchanted cos Hugh Dancy is in it. He's a darling and makes me cry. British too. Acted in Black Hawk Down (as the medic, if I'm not wrong), Sleeping Dictionary (opposite the lovely Jessica Alba), etc.

HGM
I just watched Along Came Polly, was funny if a little cheesy!

Just finished watching Amélie for about the hundredth time. Amazing film. If anyone hasn't seen it, watch it. It's truly fantastic.
HGM
I loved Amelie! Only seen it once so far but it's very funny and sweet and just great! She's so adorable and her man is very cute!

I totally agree they are so funny! (although I haven't seen The Royal Tenenbaums, will have to watch that!)

Yes, I agree Amelie is a fantastic film! Makes me feel all warm inside! Teehee!

I have just got back from seeing Spiderman 2 which I thought was great, very entertaining but the story wasn't brilliant. I have seen Shrek 2 twice cos I thought it was sooo funny! Shrek is one of my favourite films of all time, I think its incredibly clever. Although I find bits really hilarious that no-one else finds funny at all!

I started off pretty slow, but got quite scary towards the end.

I thought the Hole was ok, but it must have been a pretty tame scary film cos I wasn't scared and I am most pathetic when it comes to scary films!!
Jill
yea my bro has it on video (the Hole), i also thought it was meant to be quite scary, even i wasnt scared and i dont really like scary film cause i get scared

yeah me too i'm such a wuss!

I think the scariest film i ever saw was one called The Woman In Black. I saw it when i was about 13 and i can just remember it having such an effect that i'm not sure i'd watch it if it were on tv now!

But i LOVE The Shining! The music is so atmospheric and Jack Nicholson's just so good in it.
victoriart
I went to see The Woman in Black at the theatre in London and OH MY GOD it was the scariest experience of my entire life!! I didn't realise there was a film version, just a book, is the film quite old?

There were only two actors (three if you count the woman in black) and we were sitting on the very front row just in front of where she goes down into her grave! I have never screamed so much in my life, let alone in a theatre! I was actually curled up in a ball shaking!

I would definitely recommend it as it is so well done but don't sit on the front row! Also I think they have made it less scary now because someone actually had a heart attack during one of the performances.

I guess the film's oldish - was on tv when i was 13 so must have been made a few years before that, maybe late 70's?

I thought maybe it was just that scary coz i was younger but thinking about it's already making my skin crawl!!

I watched A Walk To Remember on my birthday and cried my eyes out - just like I knew I would!

ohmy.gif The play is in town, in Singapore!!! Right now!!!!!!! I *really* want to watch, but I'm not a BIG play-goer, and hence I can't possibly watch it alone (cos I don't even know how to get there. lol).

And yet, I can't imagine anybody who is willing to cough up the cash, so that she/he can go with me... And I can't pay for that person, cos that will be plain ridiculous. Is it really really really good??? The play, I mean.
victoriart
It is VERY scary, and you wouldn't imagine a theatre performance could provoke such immense fear in someone, therefore it must be very well done and very well thought out.

I didn't enjoy it in the slightest because I don't enjoy being scared, but if you are someone who enjoys being scared of scary films then you will love it!
Rain
I think this play would be a true test of my disbelief in ghosts! Okies. I'm going to drag somebody to the play. Yippeeee!!!

i watched it a little while ago, knew what was going to happen anyway, and cried so much my mum actually got REALLY worried.

there's not many films which i cry at, mainly LOTR 3, Bruce Almighty (yes, i know it's a comedy ok), and ok, it's not a film, but the video of Les Miserable that we have made me bawl my eyes out. blink.gif

ooooooooo, The Shining is a classic! I love Jack Nicholson! Check out One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest for another classic Stanley Kubrick/Jack Nicholson masterpiece.

I saw it and absolutely crapped myself...

Its fantastic, the rocking chair bit got me and the loud screams!! Very very scary!

As for Spider-man 2! I went to see it whilst I was in Bournemouth the other day and was absolutely glued. It's so so good. I loved the first one and this one was just a million times better!!

I was quite sad to hear that Kirsten Dunst has split with Jake Gyllenhaal, I thought they were our new Jen and Brad!!

Very excited to see Spider-man 3 though!!!

Good times!

I saw that production of Woman in Black too! It's been touring for yonks, I saw it when I was doing my GCSE drama, scared the life outta me ohmy.gif
victoriart
Yeah the rocking chair bit was quite disturbing! Not sure which version you saw though, because I heard about it from a friend's older sister and she said the woman was rocking slowly singing to herself and it was really eerie. But when we saw it she was rocking really violently and then got up and ran off, which I thought was much worse.

Also there was a bit when the guy was about to open a door and just as he touched the doorknob there was a really loud piercing scream, and everyone screamed at that bit!
Rain
Oh my goodness.

You've actually managed to scare me with those descriptions. Crazy women always make me go---> unsure.gif

Anyways, my older brother was trying to make me watch this LAME video. It's called Jacka** and it's the lamest thing in the world. I couldn't get past the first ten minutes. Basically, it's about a bunch of guys doing lame stuff like putting a muscle stimulator at different sensitive parts of their bodies. Did my brother actually think I would enjoy it??? dry.gif

We are taking Luke to see "Shrek 2" on Saturday for his birthday, but still want to see "..Prisoner of Azkaban".. also eager to see "Spiderman 2", "Thunderbirds" & "Two Brothers".. a movie about two cute tiger cubs growing up in the wild! biggrin.gif
Vixie
Two Brothers looks great smile.gif I just know I'm gonna cry at some point during it tho ph34r.gif

I watched 9/11 today & thought it was great, very thought provoking, I wouldn't mind watching it again before it goes.
Watched a preview of Stepford Wives tonight too - it's ok, nothing special , a little predictable & cheesy rolleyes.gif

Is that the one by Michael Moore? His Bowling for Columbine was really good, he's a very intelligent guy.

Did anyone see Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind? It was good but i found it kinda depressing for some reason sad.gif

I watched the Blair Witch Project for the first time after a *ahem* few drinks in the pitch black.. the bit right at the end with the guy in the corner scared the living bejeezus out of me!!! ohmy.gif
Rain
UPM, you have GOOD taste!!! I *love* Fight Club!!! I read the book before watching it, and let me tell you that the director couldn't have directed it better. And Ed Norton and Brad are the most perfect actors for the characters that they played!!!

Love Talented Mr Ripley as well... The film is a bit different from the book, but it's a really interesting intepretation of the book. wub.gif

And Ed Norton. WOW. Hes my fave actor anyway so he couldnt have possibly done a bad job on it

If you want a scary thriller, get Don't Look Now.

If you want a real mindbender that's hard to watch, get The Stendahl Syndrome.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Manchurian Candidate updated remake.
