He's really not. He's just a stylish plagiarist.
Reservoir Dogs is City On Fire remade, Kill Bill is pretty much ripping off the best of every genre, even down to certain camera shots and scenes, From Dusk Til Dawn was entertaining but not exactly quality and again ripped off a number of Spanish horror movies, Jackie Brown was well paced and shot but again was quite derivate and the mall scene is clearly influenced by French nouvelle vague cinema in it's narrative, Four Rooms was entertaining but hardly good. Pulp Fiction is probably his best effort, but again the dialogue and style of narrative is clearly influenced by early 20th century German and French cinema, from the grittiness of some scenes to the meaningless dialogue (the Big Mac speech comes to mind first) of others.
Tony Scott's direction, style of pacing and cinematography and modification of the original True Romance screenplay really saved that movie and gave it some individual character. He even dragged a good performance out of Patricia Arquette, for crying out loud and made you feel bad for Dennis Hopper, despite the fact at the time he was known for playing evil characters and was bordering on being typecast. The way he built tension using direction during that speech about Sicilians roots was masterful.

I love Goodfellas especially because of Ray Liotta. I saw Man On FIre yeesterday which was quite good, more graphic in the violence then most movies but still quite moving.
My favourite comedy is Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. I love black comedies like that and I also like films by the Coen brothers such as O Brother Where Art Thou. Their new one looks good with Tom Hanks, it hasn't opened in Australia yet though.

Last week I went to the cinema three times and saw Thunderbirds

, I, Robot and King Arthur. None of them impressed me that much to be honest.
I went to see Thunderbirds because my friends wanted to see it and you know what it's like, you go along to be sociable. The unanimous verdict was that it was one of the worst films we'd ever seen.
I, Robot was a bit too technical for me (I prefer less scientific films - I was seeing it for the same reason as Thunderbirds). It was quite funny in some parts but not gripping enough to stop me falling asleep for about 30 seconds every half an hour or so. Seriously.
I went to see King Arthur because my boyfriend wanted to see Keira Knightley painted in woad and wearing leather straps. Fair enough. I got to see Ioan Gruffudd so both of us were happy. Other than that, nothing particularly exciting. I was a bit confused by the guy that had been narrating in the past tense being killed off near the end of the film though. Aren't narrators supposed to stay alive so that they can narrate in hindsight?

the factor of knightly running around dressed like jodie marsh cant b too exciting, she isnt exactly well endowed. pretty tho so il let her off...

I think sometimes they get rushed out too quickly - It's more about quantity than quality & thats a shame, I thought I, Robot was ok for what it was, I'm not really into SI-FI films

Not seen Casino, I take it? It's just a trick they use to make you think one thing so they can pull a switch. OH THE UNPREDICTABILITY!!!

The Ladykillers is great, very funny. I'm not a huge Tom Hanks fan (apart from Big!) coz i think he's always a bit the same in his films but i really liked him in this, was very different.
The Coen brothers are great

Saw I, Robot the other day and it was pretty good, though I did get completely confused about the bad guy at one part. And the woman in it was kind of annoying.
Also saw Prince and Me, which was a very sweet predictable film. The soundtrack is brill though, and the prince is cute. Strange how the prince of Denmark has an English accent though?

today i went to see 'king arthur', at first i was a bit apprehensive to if it would be good or not. many of my friends had said it look rubbish and wouldnt bother going to see it.
i actually really enjoyed it. the fight scenes were quite well made although you could sense that they had tried hard to combine romance/love with fights
i give this film 8/10, a definate buy for the dvd collection
i few days back i went to see 'garfield'. although it was a cheesy kids film i quite enjoyed it. the humour seemed to fit in with the whole kids feel of the film. although i dont think to what i remember of garfield in books and that it didnt seem to do the actually cat well.
i think if you're looking for a film to laugh at but not to watch again then its ok, although i wouldnt go in with high thoughts about the film as i think you may be disappointed
i give this film 5/10, watchable but not buyable

The Bourne Supremacy was good but i kinda preferred the first one.
I thought The Village was really good, very strange, very open ending but it was just quite unusual in a good way! Joaquin Phoenix is a fox! I really liked Signs too, until you saw the aliens, somehow aliens in films just doesn't work for me. But the guy that did these films has a great style, very atmospheric and tense.

HGM: Thought rather than having several threads about one film it might be a good idea to have one thread about all films! (Did that make sense?!)
So i saw The Ladykillers the other week, anyone seen it?
I thought it was great, really funny, love the Coen brothers stuff. I think it may be my favoutrite Tom Hanks role too (apart from Splash obviously!) coz he was very good, not his usual thing.
Its a bit late but I just saw The Ladykillers and loved it. It only came out in Australia last Thursday so thats my excuse. I loved My Brother Where Art Thou so thought that I would like The Ladykillers. I love the music in both movies and they are so quirky its funny. Tom Hanks character was just revolting but he played it really well.
I would like to see "The Village" too but it hasn't come out over here yet.

i went to see the Stepford Wives when i was on hols with my friend and we loved it. nicole kidman and bette midler were brilliant!
Saw Dodgeball at the weekend, very silly funny! Easy to watch and laugh at and i think Ben Stiller's just great!
But just saw The Passion of The Christ (well, most of it)

Not my thing at all, literally made me feel ill and couldn't finish watching it! So bloody and gory, i know it's supposed to be powerful given the subject matter but i just found it way too much. Maybe someone with a stronger stomach could enjoy the actual story better!

I'm probably going to see Dodgeball this weekend, it looks really funny!
I did go to see the Bourne Supremacy a few weeks ago, and it's so good! I really like it. I'm reading the books now
i haven't been to the cinema in ages, well since july anyway! i went to see that the prince and me, i was crying and everything (although it was that time of the month, lol and it was my brithday so i was allowed to!) but erm, spiddey 2 looks good, and i've heard the village is on the same level as gothika so poo then! erm am quite looking forward to that hilary duff film, strangely (i know that will make adam happy!) but apart from that, there seems to be not much out that i am willing to pay extortionate prices to see!
and i dont want to get fleeced for pic'n'mix

Pooh. I didn't think it was that gory.

And, yeah, that Monica is a fox!
The Singing Detective's good, quite different! Robert Downey Jnr sings at the end of it though and as foxy as he is i'm not really feeling that singing voice!!!
