Since you guys don't get to see or hear about
what us American citizens do to stand up for things, I want to keep you
up to date on local protests and marches in my area.

Today former Presidents Clinton and Bush Sr. are here in Philadelphia to accept Liberty Medals:

Because
of this, thousands of protesters have taken to the streets with signs
against the Iraq war and signs against Bush Jr., as some believe these
2 former presidents are respsonsible for the war and the current
state/opinion of Americans around the world. They have signs,
bullhorns, music, petitions, independent papers, everything. Americans
of different colors and backgrounds.

I didn't bring my camera to work, so sorry I can't get pictures - but I just wanted to let you guys know....

AMERICANS STAND UP!!! [smile.gif]

That's good to know Deesha. Now where the 9/11-anniversary is over and
nothing happened, people should feel more safe again, at least I hope
so.

Sorry to bring this back up, but I didn't see a topic appropriate for it - and this is the closest...

Something you might not see on the news:

RIP MALACHI RITSCHER
Last Friday morning, a man in Chicago stood near the Ohio Exit Ramp on the Kennedy Expressway (the busiest off-ramp to the City of Chicago), poured gasoline on himself and lit himself on fire , killing himself. Many simply assumed the guy was a nut. In fact, Malachi Ritscher was much, much more than a nut - he was a profound intellect, skilled engineer, peace activist and passionate lover of jazz. Malachi was deeply involved with the local music scene, having recorded thousands of shows and been unwaivingly committed to preserving the music of local jazz greats like Ken Vandermark, Nicole Mitchell and Fred Anderson. He left behind a moving suicide note which explained his final act as an act of protest against the war, the horrific actions of our government, and the general apathy of our citizenry. He also wrote an obituary for himself that is at once deeply sad and enlightening. This story has hardly made even local news, but his words and thoughts deserve a life that he apparently no longer desired . . . You can find his suicide explanation and obituary, along with other general comments, here
(story tip by kevin brenner - good lookin' homie).

It's that time of year again. I bring it up because I've been watching some of the documentries and it still amazes me 8 years later what i'm watching.

I think it is important we get to hear the stories of people involved, to understand the impact of the day.

I say RIP to all those killed on that day sad.gif
