I'm 31!! And I've had my house 6 years. House ownership is very much a British phenomenon and in recent years it has been cheaper to buy than rent. For example, my mortgage is approx £200 per month but rent would be more like £400 per month. Rising house prices have put paid to that though. I'm going to rent for a bit with a friend as it will be easier for me to move that way. Who else is moving? I didn't see.

I am 32 & we have 2 houses... well, sort of... hubby's mum lives in one, but it is still in our name. []

It is so cool to have your own space & be proud in the knowledge your hard-earned cash has paid for it all & you can rightfully call it your own. []

Femke just sold her house in the netherlands to move to London, Anita was pondering about buying a new house some months ago, and Donnie Brasco has just moved in his new house. Wow... but that's indeed an argument, when buying a house is cheaper than renting it. My job doesn't allow me to work anywhere, where rents and house prizes are cheap. In Germany the houses are very cheap at places where people can't find any work, but where the jobs are, rents and house prizes are horrid also (the 50square meters flat I lived in 4 years ago was sold for 180.000 €... that must be about 130.000 pounds.... and it wasn't even a good quarter). The only exeption is the area round Berlin but all flats and houses in Berlin therefore  are now just selling out to American, Brit and Russian estate-companies. So I guess the cheap living in Berlin won't exist for very long nomore as well.

That's true - when it's really your own and not your bank's own. I would buy a house when I really could afford it myself and could be sure that in case of need I could resell it again. But I don't feel less comfortable depending on my landlord than depending on my bank. If I would buy a house per loan, it would be the banks property for the next at least 20 years and so much can happen in this time. And it would cost me more than 300 Euros plus per month to the rent I have now. Plus the taxes and the costs for keeping it in good state...I would be too woried only to pay for 5 years a lot of money to the bank and then selling it with loss to a bad time, because of some trouble.

I was tired and decided to head home after the show.  He was brillant though.  Jazzietwo left, too.  Only MMK  stuck around. In the NYC subways flashers don't even bother with long coats any more.  Riders are taking pictures of them (waist up, presumably) with cell phones and bingo...they're on the 11 o'clock news.

I only have one friend who liked the B'way show of RENT as much as I did. Both of us thought the movie paled in comparison.  But, owning a prop from the movie is as close as I'll ever come to owning a piece of the show.  So, when my pal comes over, we'll take turns wearing the coat and we'll hop on the kitchen table and re-enact the La Vie Boheme number. Other than that, I think it'll just remain a tattered coat on a stick in the corner of my living room. 

oooh hellloooooo Lawrence, so glad that 'Aunties' aren't always of the female variety ! Thanks for the 'shout-out' of the merits of the NY subway, I bought myself an annual travelcard (all zones) for the London tube, and so far, not seen one inch of a glimpse of anything!
