I just signed myself up for doing market research, i used to do it 10 yrs ago, they pay you £45 for 2 hours of tasting a new chocolate or slagging off a new perfume packaging........Im looking forward to doing it, kind of like a little part time job every month or so.  Well its a start.......getting back 'out' there.
oooo, sounds good. I've never done anything like that, but I did have to be on the 'other' side once. I did marketing for a year at uni and we had a project to do one semester (for Reebok). So we had to run focus groups and things and get people to tell us what they liked about their trainers and things (and we had some samples for them to try on). Not quite as exciting as chocolate or perfume! [lol]

oh it's nothing that exciting really. I just got 3 goodbye cheek kisses from someone who I don't normally get them from... but just because it seemed to be a general cheek kissing goodbye, not for any other reason (sadly) [rolleyes]

It's very confusing with friends here. The local custom is 3 kisses as hello/goodbye, but only one of my friends is Swiss. She tends to give/get them the most. Most of us are British, so don't bother too much, with each other at least, and just go for the general "hello" *wave* [lol]. One is American and seems to have decided to adopt the local custom and does it most of the time. Her boyfriend is a mixture of things (mostly Italian, I think, but also a bit Austrian, and has spent time in the States) and his greeting of choice seems to be the hug! So we all do different things with different people and it can be a real mishmash [lol]

Sadly he wasn't turkish.... turkish greeting habits are really close.... I'm always a bit surprised seeing men or even teenagers in the subway kissing each other twice at the cheek, but not the same place as in Switzerland, France or the Netherlands, but rather about a tiny little bit besides the lips. To me it always looks very intense ...nice if you really like someone, but I can imagine many odd situations as well.
flechesbleues
Goodness! And I'm going to Turkey soon as well! [lol] [huh]

You don't see men kissing each other here (or in France) much, only if they're really close friends or family I think. Handshakes are the norm.

Little history lesson: As far as I know the "Americans" are built from incredients, which American soldiers brought to Germany after the war in their care packages. They told the people to bake something like pancakes of eggs (or egg-pouder in this case), sugar, milk-pouder, water and fur but then the incredients have been mixed in other relations and so this came out of it.... the regular "American" has to be half white and half brown on the backsite, because the Germans saw people with brown skin the first time when they came from the US Army. It was a kind of welcoming gift to bake this when American soldiers visited German families.

Yes it looks like this, but it's not only a cookie... it's really huge, about as huge as a dish to put your coffee mug on. And it's soft (at least when you eat it fresh, what you should do).

The Berliner's full name [teacher's hat] ... is "Berliner Pfannkuchen" (Berliner pancake).... that's why it's is only called "pancake" at Berlin itself while the "real" pancake there is called "Eierkuchen" (eggcake) . It's just a recepee by a baker from Berlin. And people outside Berlin made the whole name shorter to "Berliner" while the people from Berlin shortened it to "Pfannkuchen" ...*lol* I know that only because I read an article about why some food has names of countries or towns some years ago.

Thanks for the history lesson on Americans......would you consider those a biscuit? They make Americans at our famous little bakery here in Colchester Connecticut. So I will have to ask them if they know the story about Americans....and how they got their name....they will be so interested...not.

Oh I must go and make dinner for my son and his girlfriend who are coming to dinner.....gee it is for my birthday so why am I cooking????  Makes no sense to me....

Time to open the wine.....

Last time they came my son came in and asked where the Guinness was....his father said ask your mother.  I had a sheepish grin....well I had put it on ice and brought it to a concert where I was able to park right next to the tour bus....so I gave it to Jamie after the show....Oh well. I had always wanted to put a Guinness in that man's hand....besides it got me another kiss.....[wub]  One from Jamie and one from Danny....[wub][wub]
