Here we go... the Premiership fully kicks off this weekend!!! biggrin.gif

The SPL (Scottish Premier League) started last weekend with my local team Inverness Calley Thistle coming close to holding Rangers to a 0-0 draw.. Rangers squeeked it in the last 20 mins! sad.gif Inverness played very well in their first game... they finished mid-table last season & I think they will do well again this season.

After Saturday's outburst by some of our fans (Hull City) I am ashamed to call myself a Hull fan. (Our fans were taunting QPR fans by chanting stuff about the London bombs) It's always the sad few that have to spoil it, but I will add that not all Hull City fans are like that, it's just the sad minority. Hopefully they will be caught and the stadium management has said they will be banned for life.

Yep, that was bad news and really hasnt done Hull any favours whatsoever, its sweeping across the football fan sites and it'll be the decent Hull fans that pay the penalty for a drunken few.

Stiill we both got a point from tonights game, both teams had chances to seal a win..Im a Sheff Wed fan by the way...dont care what happens this season so long as we beat Sheff utd twice !! laugh.gif

Well, most of us have already started our season...Leeds, being the typical up and down team that they are, have won 2-1, and lost 2-1 already. And we've already lost 3 players to injury, including 2 new signings. And we're apparently favourites for promotion...very strange! I'm just glad I've got another year away from the Premiership, I certainly wouldn't want to have anything to do with it until Abramovich gets bored of his newest toy, and leaves Chelsea to compete on the same level as Newcastle, Everton and Liverpool again...fighting for 3rd place. These noveau riches.... laugh.gif

Bookie.... I think !!! laugh.gif .......... ohmy.gif ....motivator....the young lads need someone to kick them up the behind....the heads drop....to be honest I think another season in league 1 may have been the best thing for us....we were still on the long rebuild and we have too much debt.....footballs died and if the economic bubble bursts...and theres signs of it...then a lot of clubs will go bankrupt and many premiership clubs will too.. sad.gif ...too many wednesday fans are expecting far too much this season.....i'll settle for fourth from bottom and beating united twice and seeing warnock cry at hillsborough !! laugh.gif

Congrats to Frank Lampard & his fiancee Elen Rives...
QUOTE
SOCCER ace Frank Lampard was “overjoyed” last night after his fiancée gave birth to a girl.

The Chelsea midfielder and model Elen Rives opted for a Caesarean for their first child.

Spaniard Elen, 28, particularly wanted her gran — who was 93 yesterday and on holiday from Barcelona — to see the tot.

Earlier Frank said: “It was planned around that rather than around football.”

The baby was born at the exclusive Portland Hospital in West London, where Posh and Becks’ sons Brooklyn and Romeo were born.

A spokesman for the England star said: “Both mother and daughter are doing fine.”

The planned delivery means Frank, 27, is unlikely to miss Chelsea’s game against West Brom tomorrow.

The £100,000-a-week star has been dating Elen for several years.

The couple — who live in an £8.4million house in Chelsea, West London — paid £15,000 to have their baby at the Portland.

The cost includes a Caesarean conducted by a senior consultant and overnight stay in a deluxe ensuite room with room service.

Frank talked last month about how much he was looking forward to being a dad.

He said: “It’s hard to anticipate quite how much it will change me, having a child.

“But I feel completely ready to have the responsibility and the happiness of that without it taking anything away from my commitment to football.”

Don't think you got my point, love...I know who Mellberg is!!! I was merely commenting on cocky Manchester United fans who think that they are the only 'United' in the world. They're not.

And Luna??? Are you kidding me??? Good ol' Vicky Beckham must be narked - she wanted that name for her first baby girl... laugh.gif

Back to football - the mighty whites are through to the next round of the Worthless Cup, despite a woeful performance at the Theatre of Elland - which I unfortunately paid £12 to witness. Ricketts even managed to score, which shows how terrible Oldham's defense must have been (and it was truely terrible).

On a completely different topic - has anyone got ntl? There's a great show on Channel 9 (think it's 9 anyway) where they're trying to sell you Prem Plus. And how are they trying to do this, I hear you ask?! By getting 3 models on to pretend they know something about football!!! One of them's a Chelsea 'fan'. Big surprise! It's hilarious viewing - I'd recommend it to everyone. Best bit - the male presenter challenges the girls to a quiz...

Q: Who was the first £1million player?

Models: "Well, we thought it was Alan Shearer but we had a chat and we think it's Trevor Francis..."

I'm sure you worked it out for yourselves... laugh.gif

Hmmmmm...had a bit of a dilemma about who to support today. I hate Newcastle and Manchester United alike, but there's something quite poetic about Newcastle losing. Leeds should be where Newcastle are today. And Manchester United will never get relegated - Newcastle could be. So I was *fairly* happy about Man Scum winning...well, at least as happy as I'll ever be. Souness won't last much longer...Newcastle will crash and burn...see you in the Championship geordies... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif (although we won't be there much longer!!!)

Michael Owen Agrees to Join Newcastle From Real Madrid
Aug. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Newcastle United has beaten Liverpool to the signing of Real Madrid striker Michael Owen, who is returning to English soccer's Premiership after failing to secure a regular first-team place in Spain.

Owen agreed to join on a four-year contract and will undergo a medical examination to make the deal official after the Spanish club accepted an undisclosed "club record'' offer from Newcastle, the English club's Web site said.

The fee beats the then world record 15 million pounds ($26.9 million) the team paid Blackburn for Alan Shearer in 1996, the Web site reported.

"Bringing Michael to St. James' Park will rank alongside the signing of Alan Shearer as my proudest moment at Newcastle,'' Chairman Freddy Shepherd said. "Newcastle fans love centre-forwards and Michael is a fantastic goalscorer. He's someone we would love to build the team around and we hope he can help us bring success to the club."

The deal is a 4 YEAR CONTRACT, believed to be in the region of £17 million!!! ohmy.gif biggrin.gif

Good to see Michael back in the UK where he belongs. smile.gif

Tiago transfer finally agreed

The 10 million euros transfer of Tiago to Lyon has finally been fully agreed this afternoon, and now the clubs and player just await international clearance.

Tiago started 31 games for Chelsea and came on as a substitute in a further 21. He scored four goals. His last appearance was as a substitute in the Community Shield against Arsenal for which he earned a winner’s medal.

There were also winner’s medals for the Premiership and the Carling Cup where he was an unused substitute.

Tiago arrived last summer from Benfica where he had been a Portuguese Cup winner. He was popular with the fans, not least because his name fitted in with a widely sung chant. He was also popular with the players who all signed a poster of him for Paulo Ferreira to take to him.
