off-topic: where's everybody? this forum seems a ghost! when I registrated here I wasn't able to follow the entire forum...now I have time to read every single topic, incluiding the old ones!

a lot of them moved to the unofficial forum because they believed they didn't like the way this one was run, a few of us decided to stay because we like it here.
I personally feel more at home here than the unofficial one!

I personally think that reaction takes no consideartion with Jamie's team, that I believe do a enormous work to keep this forum running...
Here I feel it is the place Jamie wanted me to discuss his work, this place is avaiable because of him (and costs him money, of course)...
My opinion is that if you can give your opinion down there, why can't you give it here? What is REALLY the difference?

I agree with you completely and they got rid of the team that were causing the problems, so it's back to how it was.
Some complained about the forum speed etc, well, i've never had a problem with that.
I am disappointed that so many left, and formed their own forum, i fear for the future of this forum if people don't join or come back.
Maybe one day people will realise leaving was a bad idea.
In the meantime, those of us who are left must try our hardest to keep it going!
I do post in the unofficial forum, but not often...
Carol

I'm not registrated there, because a group of users of this forum created an unofficial forum in Portuguese (at the time 'Lost In Translation' wasn't created yet). But, we all met here, some have disappear either forum the Portuguese forum, either from this one...
I want to discuss Jamie, but I really feel this is the right place...Anyway, they lose, because competitions and interviews are still posted here, right? That's way is official...
I mean, we are all fans...I don't want to lose this place...It's my second home

Next month I'll start with Spanish classes!
I't's about time, because a part of my family is Spanish, in fact my surname is Castaņo...It's a shame I don't speak Spanish, fluently...

A lot of them still check the official site they just don't come into the forum.
I think, us few devoted members just need to keep things going and in the mean time I really want new members to post, many join but don't post. This forum needs fresh blood, and we would love new people to join in!
Good luck with the Spanish class! I did quite well with French until the age of 17, I wasn't very good at speaking it but I could just about understand it/read it!
Carol
Jan 13 2008, 01:49 PM
Thanks!
I'm very good in what concerns French, I can speak and my teacher says I write very well. I have French relatives and I've been learning the language since I'm 12.
I totally agree with you...I'll try my best to encourage people posting...
I remembered something now...I suppose the majority of those who moved to the other forum are competing for the street team leader...Imagine I win in my country...Here is the right place to do my work...If some of them win too they'll have a bigger audience...
Kiss,
carol

I'm not going to tell people not to sign up for the unofficial forum but i'd rather people joined in here!
I wish I was better at other languages, but being english we know that most people in european countries learn english and therefore that makes us not want to learn other languages. (although everyone must learn a modern foreign language up the the age of 16).
Carol
Jan 13 2008, 02:41 PM
Yeah, we are all fans and we have the freedom to speak wherever we want.
That issue is stressed everyday. People discuss everyday the importance of English worldwilde.
If you come to Portugal, you will certainly speak English. If I go to Italy, I'll speak English...
The thing is: English may be the key of comunication between cultures...But will the other languages get lost?
For example: Portuguese is the sixth most spoken language in the world. Due to his importance on past events or due to Brasil, which is a huge country?
Living in Britain, you'll probabily learn the Standard Portuguese...The fact is Brasilian Portuguese is the language most people learn. And the differences are deep, either the vocabulary, either the word order in sentences and grammar.
Tracey D
Jan 13 2008, 04:18 PM
I think we probably all get taught a basic version of any language, unless you can on to study it at university or become fluent in the lanuage.
Most school children in the UK learn French, some might do Spanish and German, but you very rarely hear anyone learning other languages at school.
Most people in Britian speak different types of 'english' too, as there's quite a divide in regional dialect and volcabulary. People in the north of england sound and speak very differently to people in the south for example.
Carol
Jan 13 2008, 04:39 PM
I know that. I have studied that, however I am not able to understand other English dialects.
In Portuguese that happens too. In fact, I can clearly understand Brasilian Portuguese, but I can't understand a full sentence from a Portuguese living in the Azores.
In Portugal, the languages you learn in school are English, French, Germany and Spanish.
I never studied Germany, and I don't want to. But, I've learnt Latin, and I loved it. Actually, I now understand much better my own language, French and English, because of Latin.
Tracey D
Jan 13 2008, 04:51 PM
I learnt latin once, but then I moved schools and the new one didn't teach it...i wa sonly about 11 or 12 though!
I once had a french teacher (who was actually french) and she said that she couldn't understand many french people in other areas of France from where she lived. Funny how we can't always understand our own language!
Carol
Jan 13 2008, 05:02 PM

My mum died on Jan 9th 2002 and I miss her like hell.
Tomorrow it'd be her 57th b-day and just the single thought of it makes me all sad.

But let's better have poisitive thoughts about it cuz you know, they're better where they are now.

At least I know my mum is not in pain anymore and she's taking good care of us all. And I'm sure your dad too hun.

people say I have reacted very well to my father's death, I suppose I did. the really bad time was when my ex-boyfriend left me because he thought I stopped being me, and because I was depressing him...probably he still thinks it was a correct behaviour.
my father would definitely laugh at me because of Jamie

thanks Tracey! it is very good to hear that. you know. I'm always unconfortable writing. sometimes I don't remember how to spell some words, most of the times I do some basic mistakes. on the other hand, here people use expressions I don't know, because obviously I don't live on a country where English is the mother tongue. that's why I write in what is usually called the Standard English. but, I learned a lot here, that's why I am making the effort.
