What events are you looking forward to watching? or does the fact that it is being held in China make a difference to you watching it?

The time difference will be an issue for us in Europe, most events will be quite early morning for us to watch, so we'll end up seeing mainly highlights.

I am looking forward to the Tennis, Swimming, Athletics and Gymnastics, after that i'll probbaly just watch sports with a strong British interest.
t0mmazzy
i'll try to watch that but i want to see the architecture of the new fantastic buldings ...they are amazing
Tracey D
Woo we won our first Gold medal today! (in the women's cycling road race).

I think the weather has been a problem today though!

Carol
from what I heard the Portuguese haven't win anything yet. huh.gif
Tracey D
I just had a look at the medals table, and I can't see Portugal on there yet, but there is still plenty of time.

Team GB have 5 medals now, 2 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes so we are 9th overall, hopefully that'll increase soon with some of the other events.

China are leading, although USA actually have one more medal than them, but it goes by the order of medals and China have more golds.

France have a fair few medals but because they are mainly silver they are below countries with less medals.

michelle254
To be honest I have just enjoyed all of it so far, I always come home and turn on the tv to check if team GB have got any more medals.

It's been a great day for team GB today, 4 gold medals! 17 medals in total now.

It's bumped us up to 6th on the overall medals table.

It's the marathon tomorrow, I wonder if Paula Radcliffe can finally get that gold medal?

Just watched the men's 100m final, Bolt got the gold and a new world record, seriously how much quicker can they get? lol

CharLovesJamie
Did anyone see the opening ceremonies for the Olympics?
They did some absolutely amazing things and it was great to watch.

I quite like watching the swimming and gymnastics.
The sports don't really interest me as much, but I do still watch them when I happen to catch it on TV.
michelle254
Yeah GB are now 3rd in the medals table, go GB.

Yes I watched the opening of the olympics and it was very good, they put on a really good show. Although I was annoyed to find out that some of the fireworks were faked and of course that the young girl singing was miming.

CharLovesJamie
Yeah, it was too bad the girl was miming. And the same goes with the fireworks, but i still loved it none the less.
I liked when the guys were dancing around the big paper and drawing at the same time.
Tracey D
I guessed that girl was miming the second I saw it, she was over exaggering the words and it didn't sound live!

I can't believe how well team GB have done over the weekend, considering China and the US (and other countries) have a significantly larger population than us we have done amazing to get up to 3rd today. Australia should also be congratulated for this reason too!
Val
Ireland are just ... huh.gif Lol.

They're up to 1 Gold medal and 4 Bronze medals now. It's better than some countries are doing.
Anyz
Argentina sucks. dry.gif
Tracey D
Some medals is better than no medals!

and some would argue it is the taking part that counts...!
CharLovesJamie
Medal count..
USA - 72 cool.gif
China - 67
GB - 27

GB has certainly made their way up farther in the medal listings.

USA
Tracey D
I noticed earlier that Portugal are now on the medal table, I think it was a silver!

Team GB have been granted a victory parade in October by the Mayor of London and the PM is writing to every winner personally.

Ironically, these games we were aiming for top ten in the medals table and 4th for 2012....but considering we currently are in 3rd place with 16 golds (!) (do not ask me how we have done so well but we have!) I think 2012 we will be aiming for 3rd now.

Apparently Australia are not very happy we are beating them!

But I say considering population wise Australia and GB are tiny compared to China and the US we have done very well. I suppose both countries put alot of government money into sport however and we are rich nations.
Anyz
YES! FIRST GOLD MEDAL!! cool.gif

In cycling (?) for Mr. Curuchet! biggrin.gif

The girls are playing hockey today and the footy final is on Saturday! GO ARGENTINA GOOOOOO!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
Tracey D
Well done for another country claiming a cycling medal...i'm afraid GB kept stealing most of the cycling medals!! lol

Carol
Nélson Évora triple jump GOLD WINNER!
Samuelm
For Brazil today: 2 Silver
Tracey D
So, now we are coming to the end of the main olympics, how does everyone think it has gone for both China and their own country?

What I am slightly amusing is the attitude change of the British people as soon as we started doing well.

So many people were anti-China or least anti the fact China was hosting the games until we started winning, now all people are talking about is the huge amount of medalswe have won this time!

Also, looking to 2012, the IOC are trying to meddle with what GB has planned as the government have already said that we aren't going to be going over the top in 2012 because we want all facilities to be used after the games and we don't have the same amount of money China could afford to spend . (hello, little island with 50 odd million people on it.)

Going back to this year, I am glad Team GB have done so well and also atheletes etc from other countries took part and won medals.
Val
Ireland have 3 medals yay!

I don't want it to end goddammit sad.gif
Samuelm
Brazil ended with: 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 8 Bronze Medals.

I think the most important happened: the world joined to watch and make a great performance. These peoples are pretty amazing.
