It's lovely yo see Sophie on the cover of the Radio Times this week! Great article inside too.....including the quote "Jamie is a proper carnivore" ..... and .... "He's an amazing cook - we share the cooking, depending on who is home when" wink.gif

Don't forget to tune in on Tuesday 23 March, BBC2 at 8:30 pm

I have to just say how horrified I am at all the stuff I have read this morning about last night's show and have to say something.

Firstly, I've read some very positive comments about the show.

Then we have the press critics, who have been totally unkind and negative, apart from the Guardian. It seems the worst offender, in the Daily Mail, was the same critic who got in trouble for her article following the death of Boyzone's Stephen Gately so I guess it is only to be expected.

I know you can't please everyone. However, what I don't get is all the personal attacks people are making on Sophie. Uncalled for and unnecessary. Twitter is littered with them today. In fact, Sophie has been trending on Twitter all morning. The way I feel is if you don't like it, fine, but there is no need to tear a person to shreds personally. Would they say it to her face? Probably not. To me, reading all the name-calling and cruel comments is the kind of behaviour you might expect on a school playground. Very immature. It is akin to mob culture. The gladiatorial entertainment of Roman times comes to mind.

There is SO much rubbish on the TV, mind-numbing, immoral trash that SHOULD be hounded off our screens (and that's just the daily overload of soap operas!). Maybe all these 'critics' have watched too much of that and become de-sensitized to appreciate what might be the finer things in life. Maybe they haven't been taught good manners. Maybe they just don't have anything better to do with their time than be nasty about someone who is not there to defend themselves. Maybe just a case of jealousy.

Anybody know the viewing figures yet? For all the critisism, it appears a LOT of folk tuned in....

Anyway, I enjoyed the format of the show and it was different.

I know this stuff goes hand in hand with celebrity and hopefully, Sophie and Jamie will have thick skin. But for me, it is another evidence that society on the whole that we live in has lost all sense of decency. unsure.gif

Firstly, I'm going to admit that I haven't seen last night's show yet - I intended to, and I'll catch it on iplayer, but I was disgustingly busy writing about hegemony in mainstream popular music (which is every bit as boring as it sounds, bar the paragraph I managed to squeeze Jamie into biggrin.gif). But I digress.
I'm quoting this for truth, basically, because this sort of nastiness is one of my biggest pet hates. Regardless of whether the programme was good or not, there is really no need for personal attacks sad.gif Like you say, it's what you expect from school bullies. It's unnecessary and cruel. There are plenty of shows that I don't like, but I turn them off and forget about them - nothing difficult about that! From the few interviews and trailers I've seen and short excerpts of her book I've read, Sophie seems like a complete sweetheart, and - ridiculously - all the negative comments have made me come over all protective!

EDIT: Well then. I've just watched it. Basically - I love her. It just strikes me as a sweet, unashamedly nostalgic programme, hosted by a lovely lady whose smile is so happy that it makes me smile right back at the screen. I've just spent half an hour wishing she was my friend, lol biggrin.gif (I also really want some fudge now...)

I really enjoyed the show.

In my opinion I thought the format was brilliant, nice and simple with a really relaxed feel to it.

I haven't actually seen any of the tweet comments or reviews as I'm personally not interested in reading them. They way I see it is if you don't like it, then turn the TV over to another channel and watch one of those rubbish reality TV shows, if that's what you find more appealing.

I for one am pleased to see a more intellectual program on our screens.

I know the critics are their to do a job, but don't make it personal (that is out of order).

I'm already looking forward to the next show. biggrin.gif

^ Me too! And from now on I will put cheese and peas in my shepherd's pie potato, too!! I could just eat that right now. (Really, she's making me a bit cheese-crazy. Since pointing out that mozzarella is like the wobbly bit on someone's arm, I love that even more too. Is that strange? laugh.gif )
