How To Post A Picture

From Your Profile

1- click on MY CONTROLS
2- on the left bar click on CHANGE PERSONAL PHOTO
3- click BROWSE
4- select your picture for your computer - make sure it's smaller than 100kb
5- click OK
6- click UPDATE PHOTO
7- still on my controls - on top you'll see Hello, yourname (Log Out) click your name
8- the url (address on top) will show a number at the end like this: showuser=1234
9- take a note of that number
10- now create a new post on a thread (no need to explain I hope)
11- click the IMG button on top of the box where you type your text
12- on the window that pops up type:

http://www.jamiecullum.com/forums/uploads/photo-1234.jpg

where 1234 is your own number you took note of on step 9.
13- post your thread by hitting "add reply" or to see if the picture works before posting it, click on "preview post"

From a picture hosting website

If you want to post pics that you don't want to upload first, host them on www.imageshack.us or www.photobucket.com (or any other hosting site for that matter), copy the URL and follow steps 10 through to 12 as described above and hit post! Please make sure the pics are not too big. www.imageshack.us works with clickable thumbnails, and they rule!

When you post a picture, make sure it fits on the page, so not too big, as it will slow down people's connection, especially those on dial-up. If you want to post a large photo, please post a link to the hosting site.

Imageshack now has a feature for re-sizing pics for forum/message board sizes... just check the right option in the drop-down box when you upload the pic... this is highlighted in the pic below... if you feel this is still too big, there are other options available.

You can also post clickable thumbnails from photobucket. Here's how you do it.

1. Select the photo(s) you want to post by checking the box next to the name
2. Scroll down and click on "Generate HTML and IMG code"
3. On the page it takes you to, look for "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards." Highlight the text in there and press Ctrl-C to copy it. It will look like this:

How To Post A Sound- or Video Upload

1) Go to a hosting site, try one of these:
- http://www.mysharefile.com
- http://www.yousendit.com
- http://www.megaupload.com
2) First it asks for recipient's email address. If you have one person you're sending it to, enter their address. If you want to share it with all of us, put in your address and it will send you the link
3) Next it asks for the file you want to send. Click Browse and find the file in your hard drive like when you send a file over msn
4) Enter your email address where it asks if you want to. Of course if you've entered your address as the recipient earlier, you'll get your link twice this way.
5) Click the send it button and prepare to be very patient depending on the size of your file. Like the page says, do NOT click or browse away from that page while it's being uploaded from your computer.

Once you've finished that part.

1) You will see a page that says "Completed" or "File Uploaded" or something along those lines. On this page will be a line of text that starts with "http." Highlight this text with your mouse and press Ctrl-C on your keyboard to copy it.
2) Go to PN and start a new post. Hit Ctrl-V to paste the stuff you copied like so: http://s58.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3CL9A3L...PX3IG74Z8ZTWJYK
3) Get rid of the http:// bit, to prevent tracking the downloads to PN and risking blocked files.
3) Describe the videoclip so people know what they're downloading if they click on it. For example, the sample video I'm using here to demonstrate is a clip of Jamie performing "Nothing I Do" at a Dutch concert.
4) Submit your new post as usual.

To download:
Copy the link and paste it in your brower and follow the instructions on the site carefully

Sharefile.com -- Downloads aren't deleted as long as there's at least one download every thirty days. There's advertisements, but no pop up ads. I'd recommend using this site

Yousendit.com -- uploads are only good for a certain number of downloads or one week, whatever comes first

Megaupload.com -- downloads aren't deleted as long as there's at least one download every thirty days. Downloads/Uploads can be very slow. One possibility, or at least something I've seen cause problems with posting pictures and links. It could be when you copied the link "http" was entered twice because it's already there when you're asked to enter the URL.

I am being really dim and I did ask this ages ago but never learnt it

but how do you write a link eg. My Photos instead of http://www.myphotos..... Please can anyone enlighten me? Thankyou in advance.

If you click it, a box pops up asking you to "enter the complete URL for the hyperlink", like so:

Paste the address of your website into that box, then click OK. Then the box changes into a second box, asking you to "enter the title of the webpage":

The words "My webpage" are already in the box, so you could just leave those and click OK, or you could be a bit more imaginative and change it. I'll make a link as an example

If in the first box I put "www.jamiecullum.com" and in the second I put "jc.com" it generates a code for you that looks like this:

and in your post, this is the result: jc.com

Voila, a clickable link

You can use BB code to make the text in your post do various things.

When you are posting a message, to the left of the text box, underneath all the clickable smilies, there's quite a useful button called 'BB Code Help':

if you click it, then a box pops up with examples of the code (using tags in square brackets) that you can use for various effects (like bold, italics, font size/colour, etc.) in posts.

Of course, you don't have to do this code manually, there are buttons above the text box that you can use to help you with the main ones, but there is always the option to do them by hand.

You must make sure you always have an opening and a closing tag for your codes, otherwise they will have no effect. For example, if you use the buttons to try to change your text to bold, but only press it once, before writing your text,

(i.e. your text won't go bold, but the code will appear in your post, ignore the 'code' box, I just had to use that to show you). To do it properly, you need to press it again after writing your text, then this will happen (your text will be made bold and no code will be visible in your post).

Another way of doing it is to just write your text, then highlight the part you want to make bold (or whatever) then press the button. However, that doesn't always work, I have trouble doing that with the Firefox browser, for example.

The code that is probably most frequently used on the forum is the 'quote' code. This is done for you automatically when you press the 'quote' button, instead of the 'reply' button. But you can edit what goes within the quotes (which, incidentally, is appreciated, long, multiple, irrelevant quotes are a pain to scroll past). This is also probably where the code most frequently goes wrong. You get carried away deleting bits of the quote that you aren't referring to and end up deleting the code as well.

This is one of my pet peeves and, if see it, and if I can be bothered, I will edit your posts to try to fix it. I'd appreciate it if I didn't have to

OK, I'm getting used to the new style forum now, but it is a bit confusing. People's main problem seems to be the different 'reply' and 'quote' buttons.

This is exacerbated by the fact that these are now below posts, rather than in the top corner like before. To illustrate this I've taken a screenshot of one post in isolation:

All the buttons relating to this post are underneath it.

From left to right we have:
on/off - telling you if that user is currently online

card - click this and you will get a summary of that user's contact information from their profile

PM - click this to send a personal/private message to that user

report - if you want to report this post to a moderator/admin because you find it offensive

top - to take you straight to the top of the page without having to scroll

edit - if this is your post, you can edit its content using this button, either a 'full edit' which will take you back to the post screen (so you can make major changes to your post using all the buttons available there), or a 'quick edit' (e.g. for correcting a typo quickly. Click 'complete edit' when you're finished)

quote - if you want to reply to more than one post in a thread, you can 'toggle' the quotes with this button. Press it for the posts you want to refer to, then hit 'add reply' at the bottom of the thread, the quotes will appear in your post for you. Make sure you write your post outside the quote code in the text box

reply - will quote this post and open a reply window for you to post in

If you just want to post in the topic without quoting any previous replies, you have to use the 'add reply' button, which you can find

I *think* that this is it: if you go to 'board settings' in My Controls, you can disable 'receive board notification when I receive a new PM' (or something to that extent). Have you tried that?

There's no limit I think, but bear in mind that replies with a lot of emoticons are a pain to actually read, hahaha

yes it used to be 20 emoticons, but bear in mind that it counts the one on the post your are quoting, at least before the update. But I've had the warning now also...so chances are the same

or
click on the number and a screen pop ups, and then copy what it says in the box

I have that problem too. Most of the time it won't let me upload an avatar direct from my computer, I have to upload to PB or ImageShack, then C+P the link and add it that way.

Assuming it's the video link you sent me, right-click on the Now Playing list and then click on Properties and you'll get this:

I know this may be a stupid question, but I really want to get a signed picture from Jamie...and I'm a little confused on how to do that. First off, what is SAE? Do we send our own picture? 8x11? Also, I'm from the states, and is $18.50 about the equivalent to 10 pounds? Anything special to ship overseas? Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but I would appreciate it if someone would help me.

According to Google £10 is $18.42 (I assume you mean US dollars). Send that along with a stamped self-addressed envelope to the address given (I think the extra £5 charged for overseas is to cover the extra costs) and you'll receive a signed photo. Don't send your own, I think they have a stack of pictures that Jamie signs which are then sent out. Be prepared to wait a while though, Jamie's usually pretty busy so he signs a whole load of photos all at once which then get sent out, so you'll have to wait till his next Samaritans signing session comes along, however long that may be.

Also, one final thing... If you're lucky enough to see Jamie in concert and have a bit of time to wait around later, he does his absolute best to meet his fans after gigs, so if you have a specific picture you want him to sign you may be able to do it then. I've got a rather obscene number of autographed things, and most of them have come from gigs I've been to where I've met him afterwards.

dunno where i should put this and i don't like starting new topics ...

ok, right, i've put up with this till now but i'm having a big problem with the emoticons on this forum.

1. if i click an emoticon (on the left) i get an automatic message that says this:
A Runtime Error has occured.

so that drives me mad a bit and i usually end up just typing all my emoticons

2. i seem to have too many emoticons in my posts a lot but i've seen people with way more than me and i just don't get it!
You have posted a message with more emoticons that this board allows. Please reduce the number of emoticons you've added to the message

1) I think that's your computer. I've been getting that too from my computer at work, it's fine at home though, so I can only imagine it's something to do with the programmes (or lack of) on that particular computer (it also won't show most images at all, but that's probably the firewall

)

2) It counts all the emoticons in the posts you're quoting as well, and if you're quoting more than one they can add up. That's all I can imagine it could be - I'm sure there's no smiley favouritism

oh, and the reason you might see posts with more could be down to the new merging function - if the same person posts twice (or more) in one thread within about 10 minutes and nobody else has posted in the interim, the two (or more) posts are merged together. This could mean that you'd end up with more than the total number of emoticons per post but they get through as they weren't strictly one post. This only causes a problem if you then try to edit that post - it starts noticing how many there are and telling you there are too many

ok.. this is a bit of a silly question..

but i really need help with tis one
i've want to share some of my photos which are in "photobucket".
my problem is that i don't know how i can share them so you can only see this one album
and not my other albums and pictures...
i'm sure it's perfectely easy but at the moment i don't know how to do it
