5th September 2003 - Wakefield Sports & Social Club, Wakefield - UK

2005-09-24

from Graham

You know the local sports club, 'Bernard always sits there', Eric has his own tankard, pictures of famous cricket/rugby players on the wall, hardly the setting for an emerging superstar. Extra chairs had been crammed in but there was standing room only when I arrived, with a queue of people behind me! I scanned the crowd, with hardcore jazz attitudes, most looked like they'd seen upstarts come and go. I thought, will they embrace this young man with his own style of jazz 'n' roll, I needn't of worried. The JC charm kicked in and his talent did the rest, he was on fire. The venue just faded away as we watched this electrifying performance, from Singing In The Rain to Wind Cries Mary, amazing. The ladies want to marry him, the guys want to befriend and y'grandma wants to ruffle his hair.
