What a difference a venue makes... I saw Jamie back in March at the SanFrancisco Palace of Fine Arts. That place had a realy small personal feel to it and Jamie realy digged the accoustics. The Paramount was a totally different kettle of fish. Big, loud, rocking. As a brit in America it was surprisig to see the audience in the balcony get up on their feet and start groovin'. Thats normally reserved for the UK crowds. Best song for me was "Catch The Sun". Awesome man ... awesome. If I had even 1% of the talent any member of his band had I'd be a proud musician. Cant wait for 2007 now!

Freeeeeaking fantastic, super energized, bundle of SOUL, all wrapped up in this phenomenally talented artist. What a voice, what a groove....and let's not forget to mention how adorable, with a big scoop of sexy on the side!! Yeah, I'm talkin' about the one and only Jamie Cullum. I love Jamie's style and am so grateful he came back to the Bay Area with his incredible band, who are absolutely amazing musicians. Thank you, Jamie, and keep singing and creating those beautiful songs of yours!!

Well worth it, second time seeing Jamie this year. He is a musical genius and very gracious to both his audience and his band. His show last night was just as amazing as the first. I did get the feeling he enjoyed the Palace of Fine Arts a tad bit more. Who wouldnĂt with those acoustics. Seems as though Jamie has found a new toy, his version of Seven Nation Army was AMAZING! Well done Jamie

This was my first Jamie show and I was blown away! It was pure excitement. You can count on Jamie to put on a good show. He has an amazing musical talent that radiates with his arrangements and compositions. I don't think that there was a single person that didn't leave with a smile. I can't wait to see a posted setlist so I can re-create it on my iPod to relive this amazing show over and over again! I can't wait to see him again and I will see him again.

Ok, the hall didn't sound like a dungeon. And Jamie is better than Elton John when it comes to signing Rocket Man. And playing pop tunes that you barely know is really amusing for fans. So all in all it was a great show. Hope he comes back real soon.

Ever since the show Sunday night, I have been totally incapable of listening to anything but Jamie. I loved how the performance wasn't just about him, but the incredible band mates he has as well. If I had to choose a few favorite moments, I'd be off: "Blame It On My Youth", "Catch the Sun", and "London Skies". Oh! During "High and Dry", he came right out into the middle of the audience, and sang two rows behind where I was seated. All in all, it was a completely unforgettable experience, and I can't wait till he comes to this side of the US again. Jamie- if you ever feel like hanging out in the Bay Area, feel free to drop a line.

Second time seeing Jamie... First time at the House of Blues in San Diego. I was kinda surprised to see so many 40+ concertgoers, but hey, I brought my parents as well. The Notting Hill carnivale rocked the house, as well as the deconstruction of The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army". On the downside, I think Dan The Automator was completely lost on most of the crowd, and I think the volume wasn't up high enough on his mic. Also, the Paramount doesn't allow for a cozy, club-like atmosphere with its 3,000 seats. Better luck next time. I'm not thinking that Jamie's tickets are going to be $35 on the next US tour... But, anyway, always a great entertainer, very appreciative of the crowd and his band, and was even willing to sign autographs/take pictures for 50+ people outside after the show. I would definitely see him for a third time.

Second time with Jamie and the band this year. Brilliant - again! The Master has such phenomenal energy! (Couldn't hear Dan the Automator or opening act lyrics.) Norah Jones lyric was a kick, and Rocket Man was great! Jamie, you and your incredibly talented band are IT! Thanks so much for another great evening. Geoff, my 'car-full-o-chicks' was glad you found the right BMW, and we lauged all the way to Sacramento! We'll continue to listen to your music and tell everyone how great you are! (LOVED your incredible March Minnesota concert at the Fitzgerald Theater, in particular Liar Liar & Nothing I Do.) Until next time...Cheers!

On Sunday, we jetted over to 19th Street in Oakland a la BART and walked about 0.1 miles to The Paramount, an egyptian-themed theatre with golden fixtures abound and massive inlays from floor to ceiling. We arrived a bit after seven o'clock and I immediately went to look for the bar to calm my nerves, but Jon didn't want to drink with me and I hate to really drink alone so, I spent my cash on Jamie Cullum paraphenalia instead. I bought some badges [buttons/pins] for $5 and a concert t-shirt for $20 from this lovely British young man who was very dreamy, so dreamy that Jon thought I mimicked his accent when I asked for the "badges." I probably did and it was probably terrible! After I got my goodies, I felt that I didn't need any libations after all. You know they do say shopping is an addiction and it definitely is my drug of choice; this is most notable after Spring Cleaning or after any major donation. But I digress. We head to our seats and were ushered by the sweetest little ole' ladies. Then, I look around and take note that all of the ushers are flashlight wielding senior citizens! Btw, they used those flashlights to look up rows and numbers even when all of the lights were on! Too cute. Once seated, Jon and I glance around and look at the time. Hrmmmm, 7:20 p.m. and no one's really here. I shrug and don't mind that the theatre will be empty, but kind of bummed that Jamie doesn't really sell out in the States like he does abroad. So, we have some time to kill until eight and Jon, takes out his binoculars. I start to laugh, but he looks at me with a smirk and says knowingly, "You're gonna want this later on. I know it." I still laugh because we were about nine rows behind the pit, so weren't that far at all! Then, I excuse my self to leave for the restroom because the smoothie we drank earlier was beginning to take my bladder on like Donkey Kong and I would kick myself [or pee in my pants] if I'd miss a second of Jamie's performance. So, I rush to the bathroom and phew! Thank the lord there wasn't a line, yet. But after I wash my hands, stampede! A line formed and went out two doors! I guess everyone hit up the bottom floor bar and got the call at the same time. So, I rush to my seat and told Jon that everyone's downstairs drinking up a storm! And the crowd was really diverse - young, old, jazz lovers, pop-heads, families, couples, groups of tweens, and groups of 20something males! It was great to see all the different people who've showed up. Then, I spot a camera flash from the corner of my eye and my head turns to see what would happen next as the Paramount has a "no camera or recorders" policy. The girl who snapped was immediately approached by security and was told to put her camera away. Bummer, I guess my camera would go into hiding, but Jon turns the LCD and the flash off and we propose to sneak a few pictures of the venue, but nevermind, it was way too dark in there. Then, the lights dim and bam, the show starts right on time! Dan the Automator walks in with his band mates, who are all wearing The Incredibles-style masks, as they * Dan the Automator Dan the Automator are the opening act. If you're not familiar with Dan, he's a hip-hop producer from the Bay Area who has worked with Pharell, Gorillaz, and Handsome Boy Modeling School. He introduces himself and they begin their set. Dan starts talking again, explaining something, but no one could understand him because he was eating a banana! What a douche! Then, they play another song no one's interested in and he mumbles some more rubbish. Dan then starts to mumble into each band member's ear whilest they perform and the audience just doesn't feel this act at all. People start getting restless and rants begin: "Where's Jamie? Bring out Jamie! Jaaaaaamie Jaaaaaaamie!" But Dan doesn't get the hint and he goes on with the show introducing Cash Flow, a rapper from Oakland and a blessing in disguise. He was actually really good or more entertaining than the Automator - whatever, he was on stage now. After Cash Flow, Dan starts mumbling about this kid who Pharell recommends he produce or collaborate with because he's gonna be big! But nope, Dan doesn't feel it and some time has passed. Then, he calls up Pharell and gets an update that this kid is a lot bigger now, especially abroad. So, Dan goes for it. He jokes that Jamie's even bigger than him now, haha. No one laughs. Then, he rambles about who he's produced again and introduces Jamie as one and Jamie walks out. The crowd screams and Dan introduces one of his masked bands mates to sing, The Greatest Mistake. The crowd is relieved and the seats were slowly getting filled with the bottom floor party-ers. I didn't particularly love this cover and the girl who he sang with. Her voice was too raspy and his, barritone = "no-matchy-matchy." [Teen Vogue Style Editor,The Hills, Episode 2, MTV] The song ends and Dan + band are gone and everyone is pleased to get a glimpse of Jamie. The curtain is * Curtain Curtain drawn to the floor and the Automator's equipment is out, Jamie's, Seb's, Geoff's, Tom's and Rory's are in. The curtain lifts and the seats are about 75-80% full and on comes Jamie et al. No big announcer introduction, just a casual hello and walk to the piano with a tall, cold can of Guinness. More people come in to take their seats. Lady sitting next to me says, "Haha, I'm glad we missed the opening act. I heard they were terrible!" On with this show, Jamie says, "We will be playing songs from three of my latest albums: Catching Tales, Twentysomething, and Pointless Nostalgic which was not properly released here in America. Then, plays the following: 1. Photograph 2. Twentysomething 3. Get Your Way 4. What A Difference A Day Makes 5. Freestyle Medley: Crazy (Gnarls Barkley) + So Sick (Ne-Yo) + Gold Digger (Kanye West) + One Thing (Amerie) + Frontin' (Pharell/NERD) 6. These Are the Days 7. Catch the Sun 8. Devil May Care 9. London Skies | Mambo/Samba Mix - Jamie associated the SF fog to London's gloomy weather. "There are no songs about London...so here's my Star-Spangled tribute to London." 10. Blame It On My Youth - "This song is for all of you who have been dumped by an older woman...I've been dumped by an older woman twice." 11. Another Medley: Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes) + Rocketman (Elton John) + Wind Cries Mary (Jimi Hendrix) 12. High and Dry 13. All At Sea 14. I Get A Kick Out of You 15. I Could Have Danced All Night (Thanks Johanna for reminding me!) In the beginning of the performance, Jamie gave a can of his half drunk Guinness to a young blonde lady in the front row because her group was really enthused! He also talked about the Playboy Jazz Festival which he played Saturday night, and he said that he was sad to say that the Paramount in Oakland could have been the best venue he has been at in California, but there were "bunnies, Playboys, Playmates dancing on stage [at the PJF] like so" and he proceeded to dance like a sexy gal! The audience roared and he did the dance again! Jamie was sooooo cute dancing like a chick, and I don't know why. laugh.gif Then, Jamie played some more songs. Everyone was clapping along and sometimes he didn't want the crowd to start because it was throwing him off especially, during the Crazy medley - It seemed like he was trying that song out for the first time and it turned out really well! He also conducted us into an auditorium sized choir during These Are The Days and we really sounded great or a lot better than most! I forgot what song it was, maybe All At Sea?, but Jamie got off stage and walked down into the crowd with Tom on sax and Rory on trumpet, in tow and shook some people's hands and then invited everyone to come closer to the stage. An older couple jumps up and Jamie walks down the aisle with the woman, locking hands and husband in tow. Then, stampede! Everyone follows suit! We're all singing, clapping, dancing, and jumping around like CulluManiacs! But no one cares. Even the 40-50something man a seat away from me couldn't help but play air drums, air piano, or air guitar the e-n-t-i-r-e concert! Then, it was the grand finale and no one was ready to let Jamie go just yet. So, Jamie * The Real Goodbye The Real Goodbye returns and Seb plays a 15-minute drum solo! It was good, but a bit too long. Then, bows, waves, and claps - the show is over. Jamie didn't want to run past eleven because of the union workers - very thoughtful of him. Then, Jon and I mowsy [sp?] on down and out to look for the line of fans waiting by the stage door. We wait, wait, wait, and wait for about an hour during which I overhear some funny conversations and witness to an unlikely musing. Girls were gabbing, "I wonder how tall he is? He looks so tiny on stage? Who's cuter the guy from Fall Out Boy or Jamie Cullum? How old is he thirty or something? When's he coming out? Wouldn't it be funny if Jamie was in that trailer that whole time drinking and laughing at us while we wait for him?" Then, we all stop to witness a much older fan. An 40something year old gentleman who was given a can of Guinness by Jamie has obviously gotten drunk by the said drink and begins to harass security. He blames a long-haired bodyguard for crushing his souvenir and walks a little to close to Jamie's bus and trailer. Security has repeatedly told this man to step away, but he refuses until another security guard shows up. Then, drama over. He just wanted attention. A few minutes pass and Jamie finally comes out! Ahhhhh! I scream! Crap, was I the only one? Who cares! And Jon, was relieved. I was about 15-20th in line which included the obviously dragged significant other from the male variety who were also doubling as Papparazzi photographers. Then, my turn came. Charm: Hi, I'm Charm. Jamie: Nice to meet you too. Charm: [ponders, I wonder if he thinks I said, "I'm charmed."] So, how are you doing? Jamie: I'm pretty good, pretty good. Charm: [shaking] Here's a shirt that I we got for you. [presents shirt] Jamie: Ohhhh lovely, thank-you so much! Charm: No problem. [pointing to shirt] I got this for you cause we live in the Haight and wanted to give you something that would remind you of San Francisco. [shakiness in voice gets more intense] Jamie: Oh cool. [hands the shirt in bag to someone + gives me a kiss] Charm: [Return kiss at the same time and take a whiff = smells like teen spirit] Both: **smile** Charm: Big cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesy grin! [Jon snaps photo] Jamie: Well, it was nice to meet you. Charm: Same here, but can you tell Rory something for me? Can you tell him that I'm sorry for starting the whole phone number posting on the forums. Jamie: So, you're the one! Rory! Rory! Rory! [Rory pops head out] This is the girl that posted your number on the forums! [proceeds to signs some more autographs] Charm: [starts to walk to the side] Jon: [starts to record] Rory: So, are you the one responsible? Charm: I was the first one who posted it, but I didn't call it, I swear! Jon: [cuts video to Jamie signing a fan's poster, fan gets hit in the head with grapes] Girl Fan: rubs head Jamie: Are you okay? Girl Fan: [nods] ***Photos and Videos can be found here... http://charm.vox.com/library/post/jamie-cullum-concert-recap.html http://charm.vox.com/library/post/me-jamie-cullum.html
