Written For Twangville Published at http://twangville.com/371/jamie-cullum-josh-ritter-live-in-florida/ Let me begin by saying that the talent on this tour is immense. Even the roadies play piano and jump in here and there when the band members are busy trading off on other instruments (it seems they all play at least 2 or 3). Add to that the fact that the frontmen, Ritter and Cullum, might as well be comedians and this show turns out to be well worth the $20 - $50 on the ticket. Some choice quotes from the evening: ìThereís really other people from Idaho here? Hell yes. The chances of your ending up here are about the same as mine, I guess.î -Josh Ritter on his first visit to the Sunshine State ìIf you catch me, donít let me go.î -Josh Ritter in response to the audience members from his home state calling him a ëHot Idaho Potatoî ìThis song is about sex & drugs. That always gets a cheer, even in the retirement homes, it gets a hearty, ëYeah!íî -Jamie Cullum on the song ëPhotographí ìThis is a pirate song. In the landlocked states itís more of a cowboy-desperado song but weíre in Florida now, so I figured what the hell. Itís a pirate song now. So, if youíll sing along on the chorus, thereís not so much lyrics as raw emoting. Think íshyí pirate.î -Josh Ritter on the song ëLillian, Egyptí The night included some amazing moments, namely Ritter performing ëWingsí solo and Cullum playing ëWind Cries Maryí and ëDo You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleansí by himself. During ëFrontiní Cullum, as usual, forayed into the crowd with his trumpet player, Rory Simmons, and ended up no more than five feet from my seat. Talk about getting the audience involved. The camera phones came out en masse. I guess my favorite part about seeing Cullum live (among many things) is the fact that when you get down to bare bones, as they often do, what youíre seeing is an amazing jazz trio led by a tiny brit with the biggest voice Iíve ever encountered live. As much as I can rant and rave about how much fun this live show is I simply cannot begin to put into words what I would give up to see just the three of them play acoustic for an evening. I think that might just be my dream for the afterlife. Iíve said it many times before, I know, and Iím sure Iíll end up saying it again and again, but for the love of all that is good in music, donít miss this show. Itís more than a good time and a fun place to dance, this is the real deal, the kind of talent that most people are lucky to see once or twice in a lifetime. See that youíre one of them, you wonít regret it.

Fabulous!!! One of the most entertaining shows we have seen in a long time. We were probably the oldest in the crowd but enjoyed every minute...

Let me start off by saying that if I am going to a Jamie Cullum concert (having 3 under my belt)I am so going to be dancing. No need to apologize to the people behind me and no need to hesitate in clapping by the evil eye lady who kept turning around in front of me. It was, of course,an amazing performance but the crowd could have been a little bit more lively, come on! You get to see Rory rock the trumpet, Tom being able to play multitudes of instruments, Geoff swaying with his guitar and Sebastian's totally cool drumming like nothing phased him in the world. It was a feast for the eyes. Personally I didnít want to stand out in the crowd but I did so by dancing out of my seat and you know what? It was soooo worth it. Even better, to be acknowledge by Jamie and helped up on stage while the guard before hand was preventing me to even step an inch closer to the stage was so surreal. I have never had that experience in my life and I bet I never will. I wanted to do something truly crazy like bang on the drums or scream into the mike but all I could do was imitate Courtney Cox in that Billy Joel video in the 80ís. Yes I did look like a bumbling idiot but it was the best 3 minutes of all time. Awesome, simply awesome. I totally recommend going to any Jamie Cullum concert and no matter what the crowd is like, a true lover of music will soak it all in and stand up and dance! just beware of the security guards and the older attendants with flashlights at Ruth Eckerd :)

The beauty of reaching my forties is realizing that I have had enough muscial influence and experience to know what is good, and what is not. I was truly impressed with the performance. The sound (in person) was actually better than the sound on the CD. That is so rare in today's over-produced music and musicians. Thank you...I had a wonderful evening.
